John C. Burnett, Jr., MD is the Marriott Family Professor of Cardiovascular Research; Director of the Mayo Heart and Lung Research Center; Head of the Cardiorenal Research Laboratory; and Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, MN. He is also a Consultant in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. After receiving a BS in physiology (with distinction) from the University of Illinois, Dr. Burnett earned his medical doctorate from the Loyola University School of Medicine in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Burnett has authored more than 370 peer-reviewed publications, and is receiving ongoing support from the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for the following research projects: "Biology & Therapeutics of Cardiovascular Peptides in Disease," "Peptides in Cardiorenal Regulation," "Cardiovascular Peptides and Myocardial Infarction," and "Heart Failure Clinical Research Network." He has received numerous honors and awards during his distinguished career, including, most recently, a Bourn Visiting Professorship from the UCLA School of Medicine; membership in the NHLBI Cardiac Contractility, Hypertrophy and Failure Study Section; and recognition as a Mayo Distinguished Investigator.
