James A. Simon, MD, CCD, NCMP, FACOG is Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he also maintains a private practice of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Simon is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both obstetrics and gynecology, and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He is also certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry and the North American Menopause Society.

Dr. Simon received his medical doctorate from Rush Medical College (1974-1978) and completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the George Washington University Hospital (1978-1982). He completed his fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (1982-1985). Dr. Simon then became Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, VA (1985-1987). He served as Chief of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division at the Georgetown University School of Medicine (1987-1996) before assuming his current duties. During his tenure at Georgetown, Dr. Simon was Biomedical Director of the Institute for Reproductive Health, a cooperative program of the National Institutes of Health and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and was an adjunct scientist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In addition, he founded and directed the Bone Densitometry Unit and managed the Andrology Laboratory.

Dr. Simon is an established investigator in reproductive endocrinology. His basic research interest is implantation, specifically embryo/endometrial signaling and tissue remodeling. His clinical research focuses on menopause, osteoporosis diagnosis, prevention and treatment, and hormone replacement therapies, including complementary and alternative approaches, and normal and abnormal female sexual function. He has established himself as an authority on oral micronized progesterone and the effects of routes of administration on both clinical pharmacokinetics and outcomes, and on the impact of androgens on women's health, the skeleton, and sexuality. Dr. Simon's research has been supported by more than 140 research grants and scholarships from a wide range of sponsors, including NIH, American Heart Association, the Heinz Foundation, and various pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Simon is a former President and member of the Board of Trustees, the Professional Education, and the Menopause Practitioner Exam writing committee of the North American Menopause Society. He is also a former member of the Board of Trustees, as well as the Public Policy, Finance, and Management Committees, of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. Dr. Simon is a past President of the Washington Gynecologic Society and a current member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health. A short-list of his other honors and achievements includes being selected to "Top Washington Physicians," America's Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and "The Best Doctors in America." He is an author or co-author on more than 230 articles, chapters, and proceedings, including several prize-winning papers, as well as more than 180 published abstracts. Dr. Simon is coauthor of the paperback book: Restore Yourself: A Woman's Guide to Reviving Her Sexual Desire and Passion for Life. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for numerous journals, including The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Biology of Reproduction, Endocrinology, Fertility and Sterility, The International Journal of Fertility, The Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and The Journal of Clinical Investigation. He sits on the editorial board of Menopause, the official journal of the North American Menopause Society.
